Baby Friendly Cafes in Newcastle and Tyneside

So, I asked local parents on Facebook & Twitter for ideas of lovely places to pop to for food, good coffee and cakes if you also happen to have a baby.

I wanted brilliant every-day eateries, rather than baby cafes and soft plays, where parents with a baby will be made welcome. Here’s what local parents came up with…

Pizza Punks – Grey Street in Newcastle: “delicious food, great atmosphere, lots of fun and helpful with babies & toddlers”

Monsieur Crepe Café – Newton Place, High Heaton: “Really friendly and welcoming, highly recommend it if you have a baby.”

Gosforth Civic Centre – Regent Farm Road, Gosforth: “always a warm welcome”

DAT Bar – Market Street in Newcastle: “brill for an “grown up” place that has high chairs.”

Fuego in Fenwicks: “Another “grown up” place when we fancy something different and it’s no problem bringing along a baby.”

The Oats & Eggs Pantry – Chillingham Road, Heaton: “This is brilliant little find – friendly, helpful staff, good coffee and somewhere to feel comfortable with a baby.”

Kafeneon – Bigg Market in Newcastle: “staff are always really helpful, nothing is a bother.”

Panis – High Bridge in Newcastle: “friendly staff who are always lovely and helpful.”

Café Royal – Nelson Street in Newcastle: “always help me loads, they don’t do table service but always did when i was breastfeeding.”

Tyne Bank Brewery  – Walker Road, Newcastle: This is not strictly a café but I was impressed by the amount of space with comfy chairs, parking and high chairs. There were quite a few groups in who had a baby among them – it’s a chilled weekend space to meet friends, pop out for a pint and grab some food.

Ernest – Boyd Street, Ouseburn: “well geared up for little ones”

The Wheel House – Tanners Bank: “this is my new favourite place – run by really lovely people, who are so helpful and welcoming. It is a small but perfect cafe so baby in a sling works well but the coffee and cake is so good and it’s well worth a visit, especially if you are out and about on the Fishquay.”

Mister Woods – Railway Street: “plenty of space and staff are friendly and really helpful. Coffee is also v. good!”

Browns Salthouse – Victoria Crescent: “always good, always friendly and helpful. Somewhere to go for good food.”

Cullercoats Coffee – John Street: “great atmosphere, excellent coffee – I always pop in during the week when I am out and about with my baby.”

Room 305 – Whitley Road: “It is so pram friendly, lovely staff and great sweet treats!”

Hinnies – East Parade: “Fab place. No problem if you have a baby or toddler – very accommodating.”

Kith & Kin – Park View: “Staff are so friendly and helpful and the food is great.”

Relish – Marine Avenue: “The staff are, and have always been, lovely with my two.”

Crab & Waltzer – Marine Avenue: “Really accommodating and they were also really helpful with dairy and soy allergy.”

Coast Kitchen & Bar – Front Street: “We have always felt very welcome here with our baby.”

Mister Woods – Front Street: “Good coffee and really helpful with flustered parents.”

Surf Café – Grand Parade: “Super chilled place to go for food. Really lovely and helpful staff!”

The Thought Foundation in Birtley – because it is so unique and fabulous.

National Glass Centre in Sunderland – this is one of my absolute favourite spaces. It is really peaceful and interesting – there is art to look at, you can watch glass blowing, there’s a shop and the café is lovely. There is free parking and it is right on the river, which is beautiful. The staff are really friendly and accommodating and you might even find me huddled in a corner with a book!

Please keep the recommendations coming.

Thank you!
