You can lay your baby on his tummy for a back massage – this could be on a mat or on your knee. You could also try using a mirror or a book for your baby to look at – this can help to keep babies on their belly for a few minutes.
This can be lovely to do when you are getting your baby ready for bed.
New or tired babies may want to be cuddled in for their back massage, as this will make them feel safer and more comfortable.
The key points with baby massage
*do it when your baby is in a happy and alert mood, rather than being hungry or too tired.
*use a light oil such as grapeseed oil, olive oil or coconut oil
*Your touch can be slightly firm, rather than light as it may be too tickly
*make sure your baby is warm and comfortable
*you can use sensory lights to calm and distract your baby
