A fresh perspective to antenatal education for all births
So much of antenatal education is about teaching facts and knowledge but birth is about so much more – it’s about expectations and hopes, it’s about fear and needs and it is personal and individual for us all.
I have worked with many, many families over the last 22 years, and I have always listened to and learned from them, which has given me an experienced approach to birth preparation.
I’m here to help you go beyond the information, so you can think about how to use it, what matters to you, what you might need and what you can do.
A foundation of knowledge is important to understand how labour and birth works, what helps it work and what can make a difference to you. But it’s also important to consider the unpredictability of labour and birth, where the challenges can be and how you can manage changing options – it really does help if birth preparation goes beyond your ideal birth.
Mindset and strategies are an essential component of birth preparation. This helps with realistic expectations and preparation, so you can personalise the information and plan more effectively.
My approach to birth preparation is to focus on you as an individual – what knowledge, support and skills might you need to feel confident, reassured and able to manage pain, tiredness, uncertainty and vulnerability.
It’s important for women in labour, as well as during pregnancy, to feel safe, to have a voice, to trust their instincts, to accept its uniqueness and to know what they can do. And that’s what I am here for.
With the digital antenatal course you will have a complete guide to birth and the first three months with your baby. There are resources to help you personalise the information and you can also include 1:1 sessions to talk through your birth preparation and to ask questions.
With 1:1 sessions we can talk through your birth preparation or we can focus on specific issues. With daytime, evening and weekend appointments, we can work around your schedule.
